EBI- not enough media terminology or media theory 

2) Write a definition for a preferred reading to make sure you know this terminology. The original blogpost for Reception theory may help with this.

Preferred reading is when the audience responds to the ideas in the way the media producer wants them to.

3) Write a list of any narrative theories that you DIDN'T use for your answer to question 1.2. How could you have used these in the Doctor Who clip in the exam?

4) Write three ways in which a modern audience might respond differently to Doctor Who: An Unearthly Child compared to an audience at the time.

One way the audience might respond differently to Doctor Who: An Unearthly Child is that modern time would think that there isn’t much diversity among the characters, whereas the audience at the time the episode was released would think that an all white cast would be normal/ideal as majority of people were predominantly white. Another way modern audience might respond differently compared to the audience at the time is that if the people from today’s time period watched Doctor who: An Unearthly Child they would be less amazed because of the lack of visual effects such as CGI, as today’s technology is more advanced. However, the audience in the 1960’s would be fascinated as they didn’t have new age technology. The last way the modern audience might respond differently compared to the audience at the time is that the producers nowadays can fund better actors, as the audience can see more familiar actors and they’d be more interested.

5) Write a plan for question 2 in the assessment - the 20-mark essay on Doctor Who as a franchise. Use the mark scheme to help you and aim to plan an introduction, conclusion and at least three detailed paragraphs.
